The chemical composition of this batch of Manuka oil from the East Cape area of New Zealand is:
α-pinene (1.3%), α-cubebene (4.1%), α-copaene (4.9%), β-elemene (2.5%), α-ylangene (0.2%), β-caryophyllene (2.5%), aromadendrene (1.4%), cadina-3,5-diene (0.7%), β -selinene (5.0%), α-selinene (4.6%), flavesone (4.8%), cadina-1,4-diene (5.2%), isoleptospermone (3.4%), leptospermone (13.1%).

The oil is non-toxic, non-irritating and non-sensitizing. In addition to its potent antimicrobial action, Manuka is a protective oil, similar to myrrh. According to Von Braunschweig (in Battaglia, Salvatore), "Old psychic scars get smoothed, sesquiterpenes stabilize & protect the nervous system and balance the sympathetic and parasympathetic nerves. Manuka's soft, high-vibration  energy is well suited to gentle souls that express themselves through sensitive skin or frequent digestive upsets."

Manuka oil is useful for its analgesic, antibacterial antifungal, anti-inflammatory, deodorant, expectorant, immune tonic, insecticidal and sedative properties.
