According to Shannon Becker, PhD RA "There is currently no known cure or vaccine for the current viral epidemic, which is caused by an enveloped virus, similar to the influenza A virus (IAV)....The essential oils and blends may, however be used in traditional ways for respiratory relief and psychological support." - Becker in Tisserand Institute Newsletter, March 2020.

Kunzea is an essential oil derived from a tall shrub in the Myrtaceae (tropical respiratory, nutritious & strengthening tree) family, which grows wild in cool coastal areas in North-East Tasmania. It is closely related to Tea Tree, and has been called the most healing plant in Australia. It is commonly called Tick Bush because animals stay close to it due to its insect repellant qualities. It has a pleasant, leathery fragrance which makes it desirable for masculine essential oil blends.
Kunzea is sometimes called New Zealand Tea Tree. Kunzea has a unique composition, with a high content of important sesquiterpene compounds: globulol, viridiflorol, spathulenol, ledol and bicyclogermacrene; and a high proportion of Alpha-pinene (about 52%). Thus it provides inflammation support and has been used topically by French physician Dr. Daniel Penoel with reported success in supporting comfort and healthy tissue wellness during challenging health situations.
Kunzea is reported to have pain-relief support properties; helps relieve anxiety, stress, headaches, and nervous tension; promotes seasonal wellness; and is useful for muscular, tendon, and joint comfort. It works well by itself or in combination with other essential oils such as Rosemary, Basil and Peppermint. Kunzea soothes insect bites, & burns, and works well with Peppermint and Lavender.
When applied neat to the joints of the toes, Kunzea is traditionally used to support comfort, flexibility, and the body's natural cleansing processes. Kunzea essential oil helps soothe itching associated with healing rash.
Kunzea helps reduces bruising and is good alone or combined with Helichrysum, (10%) diluted in Arnica infused oil. If Kunzea oil is applied soon after minor trauma and before bruising has fully developed, it may help reduce the appearance of the bruise.
Kunzea oil has had positive results in supporting skin comfort for rashes, skin irritations, eczema-prone, and acne-prone skin. Kunzea oil has been found to be non-irritant and generally is well tolerated even when used undiluted on the skin. There are no known contraindications for its use during pregnancy at common dosages.
Kunzea oil has been evaluated in laboratory studies for its broad-spectrum cleansing properties and has shown activity against a variety of microorganisms at low concentrations.
Dr. Alan Lane (Tasmania, Australia) has reported positive wellness outcomes in individuals undertaking frequent sodium ascorbate intravenous treatments. He applies Kunzea essential oil to the injection site twice daily following injections to help soothe the area and promote skin comfort. Oncology treatment demands many intravenous injections and the same problems arise as with sodium ascorbate. Kunzea oil shows promise as a supportive wellness tool in demanding care settings and other areas of complementary wellness practice. Hence, Kunzea oil holds promise for supporting comfort and skin wellness in situations involving multiple intravenous injections, either undiluted or diluted in Calendula Infused Oil.
